Network Engineer

Description

The Network Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of customers’ production networks. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing networks and network infrastructure. The Network Engineer will participate with deployment, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of network hardware and software. This individual will analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and will provide knowledge transfer assistance to customers’ upon project completion or incident resolution.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate with customer stakeholders and ESI team members to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
  • Collaborate with customer stakeholders to plan network maintenance tasks.
  • Create and maintain “as built” documentation as it relates to customer network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.

 

 Maintenance & Deployment

  • Design and deploy  modern network solutions across a wide variety of network technologies.
  • Travel to customer locations to handle request for new network and/or system additions.
  • Oversee the maintenance of customer networking equipment and software.
  • Travel to customer locations to handle incident response tickets or maintenance tickets.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in networking technology.
  • Interact and assist members of ESI’s Operations and Incident Response teams.
  • Perform Wireless Surveys of customer environments and design best practice wireless networks.

 

 Operational Management

  • Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Monitor customers’ network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
  • Participate in managing customer network security solutions.
  • Assist with network security audits.
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
  • Assist with knowledge base article creation for common network problems including “how to” troubleshooting steps towards resolution.

 

Formal Education & Certification

  • University degree in technology and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.

  • Basic Network Troubleshooting Layers 1-3 (Physical Connectivity, VLANs, IP addressing, familiarity with basic routing)
  • Basic Infrastructure knowledge (Server, Storage, Virtualization, and Data Protection)
  • Conceptual knowledge of Datacenter Storage
  • Understanding of Cloud Computing environments
  • Knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems
